Sharing Your Video online

Brief recap on Part 1 of this article we established that in creating your own valuable video content you give your audience something good and in return they take care of distributing it, aggregating it, compiling and curating it in various overlapping ways for you! They also reach a higher concentration of active and interested viewers that you could have ever hoped of reaching previously through other means.

If you have grasped this concept you can ride a wave of opportunity that can take you into new and unrealised opportunities beyond what is currently available.

So where do you start with content?

1) A great and engaging concep. We take it for granted that you know your industry or cause better than anyone. So how do you communicate this information and what is the context in which it is delivered? Who is your valuable audience? Do they want humour, entertainment or just the plain facts? The only way to really know is to talk to them and find out, trial and error is invaluable in establishing the best way to deliver it.

2) Choose the right delivery method. Ensure your video can freely passed from pillar to post, do not restrict your content in anyway.

3 Ways to Create Online Video Success!

The number of video distribution methods are available with You Tube being the most well known and obvious choice out there. You can reach literally thousands, hundreds of thousands will be able to get in front of your content for free. More than you could ever afford to pay for, you must be wondering why Television have even started making adverts about the benefits of advertising through the medium, they even recognise online within the advertising. You had your time TV!

If you can grasp the value, the syndication and exposure opportunities turn your expertise into content then you can really surf this opportunity and reach more interested and specific viewers than you have ever done before.

What next?

1)  Use free and openly redistributable video online now! Just do it! Don't lock them in a format on your site or anyone elses, ensure it is able to be syndicated and "owned" by third parties in their spaces. Make sure the videos you publish online, whether they are ads, film trailers or micro programs are available in a multiplicity of downloadable formats (.wmv, .mov, .mpg, .flv, others). Provide also immediately re-publishable easy-to-use, copy and paste embeddable HTML or JavaScript code, allowing other content publishers to re-distribute and publish your video content in seconds.

2)  Doesn't have to be shiny or "TV quality", ensure the content is on the money and video production will naturally get better as you progress. Don't create fake, propaganda-like video content that smells of corporate marketing departments. Give the cameras to your sons and daughters, invite the journalism department of your closest university, launch a grassroots contest... do anything, but overly glossy video content thinking that the more money you spend on production and big names will result in more audience and attention. Doesn't work like that...

Learn about camera shot types, use a tripod and get a Mac!

3) Put it where it can be found. Don't just add it to your site and hope for the best! Opportunities do not just fall into your lap but they will if you upload your content to You Tube, Google Video and in any number of specialist interest groups, sites and forums. Make sure there are multiple ways and modes for your audiences and the publishers within them to pick and rate your video content to give it extend exposure. Just get it out there!

You Tube has 25 million hits a day, more than 40 million original clips have been uploaded by visitors. Its entertaining and even addictive "TV" that plays what you want...

The power of the medium is undeniable. Computer users are now just a click away from instant entertainment 24/7.

But despite the setbacks, everyone in the industry says online video 2.0 is here to stay and it is only a matter of time before a new tier of home-based entertainers become household names around the world.
